Fall of TibFib is one of my earliest Bone Series works — a Roots piece where I first started experimenting with shading inside the bone. The Bone Series was very seasonal for me, and this one came from my love of autumn and nighttime forests. I was inspired by the fall woods near my home, and I even painted my dog into the scene — she had a wolf‑like presence that fit the mood perfectly. It’s an early exploration of atmosphere, bone, and the quiet wildness of the season.

Hippy Summer was painted in the warmth of summertime, and it hit close to home in a way few early Bone Series pieces did. I loved playing with the organs and structures of the torso — especially the tree‑spine — and letting them merge with a sunset over the mountains. I added gray tones in the hips as a reflection of my own hip replacements, a quiet nod to the progress and relief that gave me a new lease on life. This piece is about joy, healing, and being present in a body that finally feels like it can move without chronic pain.

RadUln Drift is one of the earliest Bone Series pieces, and at the time it felt forced — mostly because I didn’t yet know how to paint what I wanted to express. But the heart of it was real. I was homesick for Alaska, remembering certain places in Juneau that made me feel free, peaceful, and solitary in a way I rarely felt while living there. This piece became an homage to my roots — a quiet nod to where I grew up and the landscapes that shaped me, even before I knew I was an artist.

Hand of Night is one of my favorite pieces from the Roots era. I had so much fun researching nocturnal animals for this one — and I was genuinely proud of my owl. I played with different colors in the vines and experimented with moonlight, letting the whole piece lean into nighttime mystery. Even though it’s early in the Bone Series, it carries a confidence and curiosity that still feels true to my work today.

Sunken Treasure Chest was one of the very first Bone Series pieces — likely the second one I ever made. I had fun painting the ocean (apparently a theme that stuck with me), but I struggled with the background and the coral inside the chest. It was early experimentation, early problem‑solving, early “just keep going.” And it made it through. Even in its simplicity, it carries the beginnings of my ocean–anatomy fusion and the curiosity that shaped the entire series.

Question Mark is the start of everything — the catalyst for my art passion and the beginning of the Bone Series. One night I just felt like drawing, even though I’d never really drawn before. I didn’t know what to make, so I put down a big question mark and started doodling. Then a skull appeared, then a spine, then pieces of the brain — and without realizing it, I fused my love of anatomy, biology, and research into a single spontaneous moment. I was terrified of making marks, scared I’d ruin it, but somehow I persevered. This piece is the doorway to my entire artistic journey.
