Marrow Queen is the most recent work in the Bone Series and the piece that became my logo. She began with intersecting shoulder blades — anatomical forms I’ve always loved — and when I overlapped them, a moth‑like queen emerged. I guess I do have a thing for moths. This was the first time I took one of my Bone Series works into the digital space, outlining, refining, and playing until her final form arrived. She carries sweeping scapulae wings, a quietly regal stance, and the feeling of metamorphosis and constancy all at once.

About three years separate the two works, and Quiggley carries all the growth, refinement, and clarity that came with that time. Spinal Cleansing came from a creative block — one of those moments where nothing felt quite right. It pushed me to experiment with new brush techniques, new blending approaches, and new ways of letting watercolor behave. As I worked, the spine began to feel like it was being pulled into water, washed, stripped down, and renewed. It became a piece about shedding what no longer serves, about the slow sloughing away of old layers, and about the quiet cleansing that happens before transformation.

Hand of Bounty was my first published artwork — the piece that opened the door and showed me my Bone Series belonged out in the world. I struggled with this one, especially the details. The berries, the vines, the skeletal hand… everything felt like it needed to be perfect, and that made the process frustrating at times. But the struggle became part of its story. Wunderland is a skull that holds a world — my world. I was proud of this one, especially the shading; it was the first time I felt like I was truly getting the Bone Series depth and softness right. Inside the skull is the place I want to be: a rainy, mossy trail near my home that I love hiking in winter.
